Let’s say we want to use ü or ú or even û how would we do it?

option + n = ˜˜
option + e = ´
option + u = ¨
option + i = ˆˆ

By pressing any of those key combinations one of those symbols will appear in yellow. To use the symbol by itself simply press spacebar. To assign it to a letter that uses corresponds to that symbol such as ä you simply press the letter once you see the symbol in yellow.

A lot can be done with the keyboard. Using the shift and arrow keys, especially when combined with keyboard shortcuts such as cut and paste, can be a very powerful thing. Even the home and end keys a can help you be more productive with a keyboard.

Shortcuts:

Copy = Ctrl+C
Cut = Ctrl+X
Paste = Ctrl+V

A copy command will copy the selected text and put that in the clipboard.

Clipboard = A magical place where cut and copied computery things live.

Once something is copied you may than paste.

If something is cut it disappears and starts living in the clipboard. It can then be pasted as if it was copied.Even though it’s been pasted a copy of the original cut item is still in the clipboard.

If something else is then copied or cut anything living in the clipboard is killed and replaced.

Hold the command key down and don’t let go of it. Now press tab. Press tab again. Let go of command. WOW!!! You did it!!!

Now try this.

Hold the command key down and don’t let go of it. Now press tab. We’re not using that app, let’s quit it! Press Q (don’t let go of tab!). WOW! You quit it! Press tab again. Hmm, we don’t want to see that app. Press h. YOU HID IT!!!

How cool is that?

Basically you were tabbing through your open applications. By pressing q the program was triggered to quit just as how pressing h made the program hide itself. To bring the hidden program back simply command+tab to it or click on its icon in the dock.

This comes in handy when browsing webpages such as maps.google.com

Also if you’d prefer safari, or any other app, to always open using the entire screen you can drag the window to fill the screen, then hold the command button, while holding the command button close the window.

Command+Q! You’re quitting an application. Now you’re presented with something like this:

You have the choice to click on a button, press escape on the keyboard to close the window, or to press enter and choose the highlighted option; whatever it may be.

What if you wanted to choose an option that wasn’t highlighted and you didn’t want to use your mouse? This is where being able to press the tab key to select a button would come in handy.

In OSX this functionality while built in is not enabled by default. In order to do so one must open System Preferences, Select Keyboard & Mouse, choose the Keyboard Shortcuts tab, and then select the All controls radio button towards the bottom.

Now close the System Preferences window.
From now on when presented with a dialogue that has buttons you’ll have the ability to press tab to highlight the option you’d like.

Once highlighted simply press spacebar to finalize your selection.

The service was launched prematurely and doesn’t work any longer. It should work in the future though.

Apparently anyone with an iPhone and service through AT&T are now able to connect to Wi-Fi at Starbucks, Barns & Noble, and any other AT&T wireless location.

It’s possible to connect with your laptop, if you have a mac running safari. I’ll write more when I’ve had a chance to check it out for myself.

Basically a page will load asking you for your phone number. Then you agree to their terms of use. You should now be able to browse the internet. :]

You’ll need;

• Spybot Search & Destroy
• Ad-Aware
• Hijackthis
• AVG Free Edition

What to do:

• Turn off Startup Items, restart computer
• Install then run HijackThis, restart computer
• Run Spybot- Fix Problems, Run Ad-Aware- Fix Problems, Run AVG scan- Fix Problems
• Restart computer, run HijackThis again
• Evaluate problems, take additional action.

First
On your computer click start and then click run (Win+R). If you can’t get to the run command from the start menu you can press the windows key plus r.

In the run command type, “msconfig“.

Next choose startup. Then choose to disable all.

This will uncheck all programs that are set to automatically start when the computer turns on. After fixing your computer you can go back into msconfig and reselect the programs you’d like to start when the computer starts such as aim.

Step two
Once your computer has been restarted and is running again it’s time to install the programs listed at the top of this page.

First install HijackThis. Run HijackThis and select all the startup programs that seem shady. Restart the computer.

After restarting the computer install Spybot Search & Destroy. The installer is pretty self explanatory. It’ll ask you to;

1. Make a backup, do it.
2. Download updates, do that.
3. To immunize your system, do that.

Once it’s installed run a scan, fix the problems.

Now for AdAware. Once installed run a scan and choose to fix the problems.

After AdAware is installed install AVG Free Edition run a scan and fix those problems.

Lastly, I’d run HijackThis again, check the boxes next everything I’d like to get rid of, then restart.

Our last step is to evaluate our efforts and figure out what it is we haven’t been able to remove. A particular pesky virus I come across quite often is the trojan / virus vundo.

1. Download combofix from any of these links and save it to Desktop:

**You’re going to need to save and run the file from the desktop**

2. Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.

*Attention*
Do not click combofix’s window while it’s running. That can cause it to freeze.

Combofix shouldn’t take more then 20 minutes to run.
If it does, (press ctrl, alt and del at the same time) this will opeb the Task Manager click the processes tab and end the processes that are findstr, find, sed or swreg, that should cause combofix continue.

I received a question the other day in my email and realized that this issue comes up more often then I would have expected.

Basically when people are minimizing their windows to the taskbar the windows disappear. Not just when they minimize something like firefox, which seems to have its own minimizing issues, but when the minimize ANYTHING.

Many ways exist to get to your now hidden minimized files. Alt+Tab, the task manager found using CTRL+ALT+DLT, alt+space, and so on. The following fix should make these temporary solutions unnecessary.

Download the following file, save it to your computer, run it. I guaranty it’s virus free. If you don’t believe me though go ahead and download AVG Free Edition which it an excellent virus scanner!

Right click the link above and choose save target as. You should now be presented with an option asking you where on your computer you’d like to save it. Choose a place you’ll remember that is easy to find. Once downloaded, run the script from the location you saved it at. Restart.
